The team is in Charlotte (Home Base!) tonight and after many rain delays throughout the day, and only ONE
practice session—
“The Little Team that Could” (as we have now sometimes been called!) with the help of our driver for this weekend, Mike Bliss, put the #71 car solidly in the show, and Qualified 7th!!!!!!
This is HUGE!!!! Rather than telling you the names of the teams and drivers that we out-qualified, its easier to tell you who we didn’t beat
(Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart & Ryan Newman).
While the team was at the track working hard, Kevin & Torrey were very busy working hard, “networking!” We had an Adobe Road Wine dinner at the local Country Club that had been planned for months, and in attendance and at their table was the Head of PR for ESPN. 2+ hours of social/business time that will hopefully go a long way towards some “tv love”
Right now is super critical as we have proposals out to numerous companies and we are competing against the bigger teams for some of those same deals, and having a good qualifying effort and getting the extra tv time is very important right now.
If anyone has any leads— PLEASE let us know and Torrey & Kevin will follow up immediately. The remaining events we are intending to race are Talladega (partially sponsored by TaxSlayer), Texas, Phoenix, and Homestead (partially sponsored by TaxSlayer). Martinsville is currently scheduled to be a Start & Park unless sponsorship dollars are raised.
Thanks Everyone– and you should be very proud of the qualifying effort of your team this evening
Debra
PS– Bobby Labonte is back in the #96 ASK.com car for this event as it was one of his original committed events, and this is one of the races that David Gilliland was offered the ride in the Farm Bureau car. This is the reason Mike is in the car this weekend, he was a natural choice and he knows Charlotte very well, evening winning the Nationwide race there in the spring.

Another great qualifying effort by the whole # 71 team. It’s amazing that you are able to do so much with so little. It looks like you have a great car for tonight, hoping that you get a great finish!!!! I only wish that Bobby was in the car, oh well 2 more weeks and he will be!!!!!This team has proven week and week out, it’s not the quantity of people on a team its the quality!!!!!
Again, great qualifying!!! You guys Rock!!!!
