Mama, take this badge off of me
I can’t use it anymore
It’s gettin’ dark, too dark for me to see
I feel like I’m knockin’ on heaven’s door
- Bob Dylan -
These were the words, as my traveling companions loaded me into the car,…that I was senselessly babbling from the 8 hours of sensation overload. You see, we’d just spent the day at the TRG Motorsports open house in New Jersey Motorsports Park where we got to RIDE along with Bobby Labonte in the Sprint Cup Car; Andy Lally in the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup and Spencer Pumpelly in the Speed World Challenge Mercedes McLaren 722 SLR by CBR Motorcars….I still can’t believe it. Words just don’t do it justice.
The day was geared towards our coming into their office. An open house for partners and people interested in better understanding the use of motorsports marketing as it might relate to their business growth. We’re still looking hard for sponsorship for the handful of races left in the 2009 season.
The good news is that our list of potentials is growing, however, we desperately need to meet more potential sponsors that meet these criteria:
- Growth oriented in the next 2-3 years.
- Ideally - national retail or multi-state retail in sales.
- Having a marketing budget in the $3-30 million range.
- Current users of print or direct mail and looking for a more productive outlet.
- Value the deep affinity and allegiance that NASCAR fans bring to them.
Enough of that, let’s get on with the good stuff……
The garage was filled with about 40 visitors and an equal amount of spectators, on lookers and camera
people all hob-knobbing and giggling with anticipation. As the whistle blew to alert the group of an incoming race car, we’d all stop what we were doing and watch as the car skidded in on the slippery concrete and the driver cut the engine. It was almost silent, with only the wind from Dorothy’s home in Kansis blowing as we all watched for the expression on the face of the exiting passenger.
Invariably, the face was bright red from the heat and exertion of doing 160mph on the front straight. Invariably, whether affected by the motion or not, there was a huge smile and complete awe at the intensity of the experience. A day at the office for these guys is well beyond anything you or I
could imagine. But you know what…I’ll let the videos do all the talking.
More updates as we get them, we’ll have a photo album to post in the next few days. In the meantime check out the rest of our videos from the day here.
