Guardian Angel Motorsports - Team Ledoux - finishes P2

Victory Celebration P2 of 1500!!!

Victory Celebration P2 of 1500!!!

It was a tough battle with the women in the family leading the charge and taking a last turn pass taking the corner from a Nanna & her grandson…;)  (not really)….but we did it!  YTD in 2009 we’ve helped raise over $78,380 for children’s charities…that’s the good news, the bad news is that we still have $21,620 to raise to meet our $100,000 goal for the year.   Personally, I find it daunting and wonder where we’re going to find the time and means to raise the remaining number.

The Food & Anaphylaxis Shock Network has been on our family radar since the birth of our first son Colin.   Born with 7 food allergies, we’ve spent lots of time working with this organization to get educated on how to deal with these allergies.   Sadly, this affliction is growing dramatically with over 2 million school children dealing with allergies as you read this….and scientists can’t explain why.

We crossed start finish in P4 with the company of Squeaky the Shriner Clown.  He entertains Big Man with his horn, bad jokes and offers for a hair cut with his side arm.   This met with great delight from my passenger although conversation ran thin quickly.   Thankfully the hill proved much for the big shoes and Squeaky dropped out to become a corner worker.   Note the bag of ‘booty’ hanging from driver’s right.

Regardless, things were progressing well as we sliced thru the field…that is until Big Man decides to follow his own plan and jumps from the carriage.   His yellow rubber boot pace slows to a shuffle and we drop back from P3 to P5.

Insult to injury is added when Jr racer Emily gets a ‘flat tire’ and has to pull over to make adjustments.   This unscheduled pit stop allowed the pack to over take and dropped us back to P10.  It was a shocking blow for crew chief but I rallied emotionally.

The 1.5 mile uphill proved much for the competition and we were able to take back SIX SPOTS running a solid P4.   The crew was restless at times but the crew chief drove home the mission and compliance was found in a box of allergy free chocolate chip cookies from Cherry Brook Kitchen.   They had given away samples at start/finish along with Divvies.   Dad was really able to top off his blood sugar for the long push ahead.

Neck & Neck for P2...BOTH break into a run...

Neck & Neck for P2...BOTH break into a run...

It was the last half mile that was the real clencher though.   Our Pro driver threw down the mitts and went head to head with the competition in the final turns.  Here they are seen neck and neck before THEY BOTH broke into a run.   It was a tough push for about 1/2 mile across bridges, aqueducts, levies and dirt paths.  A fortunate pause for a photographic moment by P1 left them in the dust as Guardian Angel Motorsports - Team Ledoux bore down on them in their unsuspecting state.

In the last turn, MVPs Emily & Mum took the low line and stole the turn locking P2 in.   Another podium finish for Guardian Angel Motorsports, thank you for the continued support as we work hard to leverage our good fortune for those that aren’t as lucky.
